Dear Neighbor,
I am so excited for the incredible progress we are seeing with the Connecticut Avenue Streetscape and Dupont Deckover project! I was proud to help secure the funding for this transformative project that the Dupont Circle community has been discussing since the 1960s. I recently toured the progress at the project site with my team.
The streetscape is intended to make Connecticut Avenue from Dupont Circle north to California Street NW safer and more sustainable – upgrading sidewalks, streetlights, traffic signals, trees and drainage and making intersection safety improvements while adding new protected bicycle facilities.
The deckover is turning the Connecticut Ave underpass into a vibrant pedestrian plaza for walking, dining, community events, and more.
I know this construction has not come without some disruption to the neighborhood. That’s why I secured funding for the existing businesses during construction and worked to minimize detours and impacts onto neighboring streets.

Updated estimated project timeline:

I want to remind everyone that businesses along Connecticut Ave NW are still open during construction and need your support. Thank you to DMPED, the Dupont Circle Business Improvement District, and the Historic Dupont Circle Main Streets for supporting our small businesses.

I want to thank Mayor Bowser, Chairman Mendelson and my Council colleagues, DDOT, all of the construction workers and contractors, ANC 2B and 2D, and neighbors for your partnership on this important project. I know the traffic and construction impacts have altered daily routines. My team will continue to work with ANC 2B and the community to ensure the plaza has needed shade and greenery to ensure small businesses are supported, and to decrease rodents as much as possible with the new materials being installed. Stay tuned for future dates to be shared for the ribbon cutting so we can all celebrate together!
Yours in Service,
Brooke
