Ward 2 is steeped in history. From the White House and the national monuments scattered across the National Mall to the world-renowned Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the Smithsonian museums, it is home to many iconic landmarks typically associated worldwide with Washington, DC.
Ward 2 is also home to Federal Triangle, the Central Business District, and the regional Medstar Georgetown University Hospital, making it the ward with the highest concentration of offices and jobs in the city. Each day, Ward 2 also welcomes students at one public early learning center, six public elementary schools, two public middle schools, and three public high schools and many additional students at charter and private schools. Sites such as the Jelleff Recreation Center and our Senior Villages also provide opportunities for youth and adults of all ages to maintain their social and physical wellness.
Ward 2 is also a historically rich, multi-cultural area and a hub for the LGBTQQIA+ community. Wherever you go, you will encounter restaurants as diverse as the communities served, local shops proudly displaying a “Made in DC” mark, lively entertainment venues, and opportunities to explore nightlife in the District. Each area boasts a vibrant culture, offers visitors and newcomers unique perspectives, and leaves everyone with an incredible story to share.
